In January 2020, Gordon Ramsay and the film crew of National Geographic: Uncharted spent three unforgettable days filming at Bangor Vineyard Shed on the Tasman Peninsula, Tasmania. This visit placed our vineyard, coastline, and team in the national spotlight - a powerful moment for Tasmanian tourism, food, and wine.
We were honored to host Ramsay, hear his appreciation for our cuisine, and glimpse behind the scenes as he explored the landscape that inspires Bangor.
Bangor as a Stage
Over those three days, the dramatic coastal backdrop of the Bangor property became part of the visual narrative for Uncharted Series 2. From cooking crayfish on the beach to enjoying Bangor lamb in the bush, Bangor’s natural beauty provided a fitting setting for a show that celebrates exploration, culinary discovery, and place-based storytelling.
Ramsay and his crew walked through the vineyard, chatted with our chefs, and captured scenes of island life, local produce, and Tasmanian hospitality. We had the pleasure of catering for the crew, and they kindly gave our team a “selfie moment” to remember the occasion. Gordon was incredibly friendly and generous, and we were honoured to be a part of his production in this small way.
What might seem like a “celebrity visit” to many of our guests was, for us, a chance to show the world what makes Bangor unique - sustainable viticulture, regional produce, a family farm’s history, and a genuine Tasmanian welcome.
A Personal & Regional Connection
For us, Ramsay’s visit wasn’t just a fleeting spotlight - it resonated with our identity and mission.
- Bangor is a multi-generation family property where we care for over 6,000 hectares of land including 2,000 hectares of nature conservation reserves, combining farming, conservation, and wine.
- Our vineyard was planted in 2010 and the Bangor Vineyard Shed opened in 2014 to share that land, produce, and vision with guests.
- We see every visitor, event, and media moment as part of a broader effort to promote Tasmanian regional tourism, food & wine culture, and sustainable farming.
Gordon Ramsay’s praise for our chefs, food, and setting reminds us that Tasmania (and Bangor) is one of the most beautiful places on the planet, with incredible fresh produce and amazing people!
