Nestled on the stunning Tasman Peninsula, Bangor is more than a vineyard - it’s a living piece of Tasmanian history. Spanning over 6,000 hectares of coastline, forest, and farmland, Bangor has been lovingly cared for by the Dunbabin family since 1890. Today, Bangor stands as a proud example of sustainable farming, heritage conservation, and authentic Tasmanian wine tourism, where every visit helps protect this remarkable landscape for future generations.
A Landscape Rich in History
Long before European settlement, this region was home to the Paredarerme people, the traditional custodians of the Tasman Peninsula. They lived in harmony with the land and sea, moving seasonally to hunt, fish, and gather. Their deep connection to Country continues to inspire how we care for Bangor today, ensuring that respect for the land and its stories remains at the heart of everything we do.
In 1890, the Dunbabin family began farming Bangor, establishing one of Tasmania’s oldest continually run family farms. Over the generations, Bangor has grown and evolved from a working sheep and cattle property into a modern, regenerative farm and award-winning vineyard. Through droughts, seasons, and celebrations, Bangor has remained a place of resilience, stewardship, and family heritage.
Caring for the Land and Environment
Conservation and sustainability are central to life at Bangor. Our property includes 2000 hectares of native forest, coastal heath, and grasslands, providing vital habitat for many of Tasmania’s iconic native species, including wedge-tailed eagles, Bennetts wallabies, and the Tasmanian Devil.
We use regenerative farming practices that focus on soil health, minimal chemical use, and water efficiency. With over 1,500 tonnes of carbon stored beyond emissions, Bangor is proudly carbon positive, meaning we store more carbon than we emit. Every glass of Bangor wine supports the care of this extraordinary landscape.

From Farm to Vineyard – Sharing Bangor with the World
The idea to share Bangor through wine began in 2010, when we planted our first vines - Pinot Noir, Pinot Gris, and Chardonnay - chosen for their perfect fit with Tasmania’s cool maritime climate. Just a few years later, in 2014, we opened Bangor Vineyard Shed, our cellar door and restaurant overlooking Norfolk and Blackman Bays.
Today, guests can taste award-winning wines, enjoy seasonal dishes made with Bangor lamb and fresh Tasmanian produce, and take in breathtaking views of the coast. From casual tastings to long lunches, every experience at Bangor reflects our passion for genuine, down-to-earth Tasmanian hospitality.

A Place of Nature, Heritage and Community
At Bangor, farming, conservation, and community are inseparable. We work with local producers, scientists, and conservation groups to protect the land and its wildlife, while sharing our stories through food, wine, and events. From our heritage sheep paddocks to our coastal vineyard rows, every part of Bangor tells a story of care for the land, for people, and for Tasmania.
“Caring for Bangor isn’t just about farming or wine. It’s about preserving a living landscape that tells Tasmania’s story.” — The Dunbabin Family
